Object Basics

Business Objects represent the data stored within the DealerTeam platform.  Generally speaking you can think of these as tables in a database.  More accurately Objects are defined models within the platform.  Examples of these include Deals, representing the Sale of a Vehicle, Chassis or other Equipment.  The platform offers a comprehensive set of business objects to power your transactions.

Objects consist of a properties.  These properties are defined as fields and each have a type.  The type represents the format of the data to be stored.  Examples of types include Currency, URL, Text and Checkboxes.  To review a comprehensive list of these data types please refer to the following Salesforce document, Field Types.

Benefits of Objects

As you might expect there are a large number of benefits using Objects over standard database tables or document driven storage.  Objects allow API access and most are read-write enabled.  Objects can be extended and you have the power to include your own Custom Fields.  Objects can be made available to the reporting engine.   Enforcing business logic with Objects is made easy for your system administrators as well.  As part of the business logic you can create validation rules to ensure your users are adhering to the best practices of your dealership.

DealerTeam Defined Objects

Salesforce includes a number of Standard Objects in the Force Platform.  The DealerTeam Platform leverages a number of these standard objects, such as Accounts and Contacts.  DealerTeam defined objects are custom objects built to power the automotive data model.  To explore the objects powering DealerTeam use the tree to the left to navigate to the appropriate item.
